This audiobook is the ultimate in women's fiction. Gynecologist Maya Rau, the daughter of Indian immigrants, interacts with a diverse set of patients. Listeners also witness her problems balancing her home and work lives, which involves battling hospital bureaucracies, racism, classism, and ignorance about health care. Narrator Soneela Nankani portrays at least 20 characters, mostly women, and while it's nearly impossible to make each one distinct, she expresses their moods, emotions, and attitudes with dramatic verve. The novel follows Dr. Rau as she treats the super-rich women of Philadelphia, patients who are pampered, ill-informed, and full of whims. While the story is, at times, exaggerated, many female listeners will be entertained and maybe even informed. D.L.G. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine [Published: JUNE 2022]
