THE LIONESS

Narrator January LaVoy rises to the challenge of bringing a large cast of characters alive as a film star and her new husband travel with their closest friends to take part in a safari in 1960s Africa. LaVoy's characterization skills are showcased as she voices individuals as diverse as wealthy Americans, African guides, and Russian mercenaries, often moving between accents and genders seamlessly in dialogue scenes. Her strong portrayals help listeners keep track of who's who as the plot weaves among different viewpoints and time periods. Additional narrators help highlight various aspects of the novel, with Grace Experience voicing the press snippets that introduce each chapter and Gabrielle De Cuir narrating the prologue and epilogue.
