THE RICH BOY

by | Read by Wayne Evans

Classics • 1.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1926

F. Scott Fitzgerald spent much time exploring wealth and its effects on those who have it. The title character in this audiobook, Anson Hunter, suffers from his wealth as much as he enjoys it as he searches for love. The story's time frame covers the period from his days at Yale to his success as a stockbroker at age 30. Sadly, the audiobook suffers from narrator Wayne Evans's haste and accent. A story of privilege should be told--as Fitzgerald does--in the voice of a member of the privileged class, and unhurriedly. Evans rushes through the text with his own northern Great Plains accent, utterly unlike that of any character in the story. The novella is still enjoyable, but it could be better served.
