Narrator Jim Frangione immediately builds the tension as this story opens with an escape from a prison where vampires have been unlawfully detained. Among the escapees is Kane, a vampire who has been badly burned. He is magically healed and feels compelled to return to free Nadya, the nurse who cared for him. Frangione brings to life the evil of the guards, giving a particularly sinister quality to the head guard. There is a large cast of characters, and Frangione uses a distinct voice for each one, from the precision diction of Saxon, the vampire king's solicitor, to the Boston accent of Butch, one of the Brotherhood. Frangione's rich narration keeps the listener on edge throughout the story. S.B. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2022]
