Narrator Cynthia Farrell brings to life the fictional European country of Eldovia, where this enemies-to-lovers romance is set. When management consultant Cara Delaney is assigned to sort out the king's financial affairs, she finds herself at odds with Matteo Benz, who works for the royal. Farrell gives Matteo a stiff, formal tone that reflects his concern about Cara's real purpose for being in Eldovia. He fears she will lay off people. But as Matteo softens toward Cara, Farrell transitions to a warmer voice. She is a master of many accents--from the Bronx accent of the king's son-in-law to the New York accent of Cara's boss and the European intonation of the king.
