Two of Shakespeare's most guileless yet perceptive minor characters board a ship for England, carrying a secret letter for the king. Unbeknownst to them, Hamlet has secretly replaced the note with his own instructions. American television regular Adhir Kalyan and London stage stalwart Matthew Wolf have a wonderful time jumping through the looking glass of Tom Stoppard's 1966 absurdist treatment of Shakespeare's HAMLET. The language and imagery of Shakespeare have always been perfect for audio, and the entire L.A. Theatre Works cast does a great job delivering Stoppard's seamless weaving of modern expressions and the Bard's classic rhythms. The fine mix of old and new theater entertains, enlightens, and is sardonically funny. B.P. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine [Published: OCTOBER 2022]
