Narrator Zeno Robinson works hard to keep the listener engaged despite a static plot and a disappointing denouement, which are unusual for this series. He smoothly handles a variety of voices and accents and modulates his pacing as the story unfolds. Private investigator Isaiah "IQ" Quintabe's lover, Grace, is the victim of a revenge kidnapping, and everyone fears for her life. Behind it is IQ's enemy, Skip Hanson, an angry and unhinged ex-con who is intent on punishing his nemesis for sending him to prison a few years back. IQ enlists his sometime partner, Juanell Dodson, to help him find Grace. Much of the action involves IQ interviewing friends and family as Grace tries to outwit her captor--but it's clear what the outcome will be.
