John Skelley narrates this first installment of a new fantasy series. The story is told through multiple points of view: A girl is sold into sex slavery by her mother. A father and son command a merchant fleet on the verge of war, leaving behind their daughter/sister, who is a political prisoner at court. A feral young man embarks on a magical quest in which he matches wits against a sorcerer. Skelley employs accents judiciously. He distinguishes characters through attitude, projecting personalities and the tensions between father and son and owner and slave. He also matches his pace to the action-packed sea battle and the more subtle maneuvering at court. J.E.M. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2023]
