Senn Annis portrays Ottawa coroner Dr. Cate Spencer as she tries to solve a possible murder. When Dr. Spencer is called to the scene of an apparent suicide at a nitrate film storage facility, something other than the highly flammable materials in the facility seems explosive. Surrounded by protesters who are trying to prevent a blatant land grab, she starts to realize that a young woman's suicide might be much more. In addition to Cate, Annis portrays a cast of characters who range from French Canadians to stubborn beat cops. Her performance guides listeners through the investigation and provides empathy for Cate as she attempts to keep her own self-destructive behaviors in check.
