For nonstop adventure, this romantic suspense fits the bill. Zena and her sister, Brooke, investigate pollution in their sleepy Australian town and end up in big trouble. After falling down a mineshaft, they call Brooke's ex-boyfriend, a veteran, for a rescue that involves gun battles, toxic waste, and underground waterfalls. Narrators Justine Eyre and Antony Davis alternate chapters from the points of view of Zena and her rescuer, Nick "Blade." Both excel at maintaining the high-stakes tension. Eyre's Australian accent gains confidence during dialogue. Davis matches Blade's tough-guy persona while exploring his regret over the dissolution of his unit. However, his female voices sound a little helpless. The techniques both narrators use to distinguish the members of Nick's unit make this an intriguing series opener.
