THE FOREST

The beauty, simplicity, and majesty of Royal Forest is explored in this saga of foresters, monks, and nobles who live near and in the forest in Southern England. Spanning 1000 years, Rutherfurd's story tells of the loves and lives of forest families (including that of a deer and stag), and how each interacts with the others. David Case reads in his usual clipped manner with upward inflection at sentence ends, portraying women meekly and men gruffly. Case slowly becomes involved in the text and relaxes into the adventures and intrigue that surround The Forest, even seeming to become emotionally attached to some of its characters.
