LADIES' DAY

Xe Sands and Rachel Jacobs give a solid performance of this intergenerational story about family, friendships, and golf. Sands portrays the sadness of middle-aged divorcée and golfer Beth Sawyer, whose daughter, Julie, went missing years ago. Jacobs presents teenage athlete Sky Sawyer and her wistful yearning for a mother figure. They live separate lives until Beth discovers a golf tournament flier featuring Sky--who is Julie's doppelgänger. When Beth approaches Sky, her shaky voice and rapid speech convey her nervous energy. As family secrets are exposed and Sky grows frustrated with her stern father, her pleading tone becomes louder and more desperate. Her determination during competition also ramps up the tension.
