Narrator Carly Robins returns the listener to the boisterous Donovan clan. Marissa Barrett finds herself in a dangerous situation with her brother. So her boss, Patrick Donovan, proposes a marriage of convenience to protect her and to get his matchmaking mother off his back. Robins brings out the frustrations of both characters with their respective situations. Patrick comes from a large, close-knit family. Robins distinguishes each character when they all gather together or participate in a group text. She adds a touch of fear to her voice as the problems of Marissa's brother worsen. She also contrasts the passion of each character as Patrick and Marissa grow closer and allow themselves to give in to their mutual desire.
