Ruth Wilson is mesmerizing as she delivers Miller's reimagining of Ovid's well-known tale of Pygmalion and Galatea, this time from Galatea's point of view. From Shaw's PYGMALION to the musical MY FAIR LADY to the popular film PRETTY WOMAN, a man's wish for the perfect woman has resulted in the transformation of an imperfect lump of womanhood into a compliant, adoring partner for her creator. Wilson handles Galatea's true feelings about her prescribed role in quietly ominous, menacing tones. She makes Galatea's sense of the ironic and her bitterness about being treated as an object ring true. This short story, first published in 2013, includes an informative follow-up by the author. Wilson's performance is compelling. If there is anything wrong with this audiobook, it's that it's over too soon. S.J.H. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2023]
