Narrator Johnathan McClain creates a motley crew of memorable personalities that make this thriller compelling listening. The central character is Hardy "Hardly" Reed, a drifter who works in a run-down amusement park with an assortment of losers. When Hardly sees a mother with children who appear to have been abused at the DMV, he sets out to learn who they are and rescue them. Meanwhile, he discovers that the children's father, the abuser, is a lawyer with some very unfriendly colleagues. Every character's unique traits shine because of McLain's inflections and style.
