Themed poetry anthologies built around concrete topics such as children or gardens can contain immense variety. When they are built around feelings, however, they run the risk of being weighed down by the similarity in their works, especially in audio anthologies. So while the poems here are all good and all are read well, their single focus on a sense of wonder makes them sound somewhat the same. They are organized by sources of wonder, and there is a fine selection of well-known and lesser-known poets. But even an accomplished narrator such as editor James Crews can only make wonder sound interesting in a few different ways. This anthology may work better for browsing than for reading straight through. D.M.H. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine [Published: OCTOBER 2023]
