In this audiobook, former detective Marlitt Kaplan finds herself investigating the apparent suicide of a college student. She faces two challenges: She has no official authority, and she has to fight rumors about whether the student had an affair with a popular professor who teaches German. Saskia Maarleveld handles the narration well, shaping the introspective tone of Marlitt's first-person point of view. Maarleveld also embraces the emotions of everyone else involved. She especially shines as she delivers the accents of two German professors, along with deftly switching between German and American accents.
