Hannah Vanderheide perfectly brings Lila Dalton to life in a world in which nothing is what it seems. Lila wakes up to find herself in a courtroom without any memory of who she is or why she's there. Slowly, she discovers it's 1996, and she's a lawyer on a remote British island who is defending a far-right activist accused of a bomb attack that resulted in multiple deaths. Adding to the pressure, she believes her daughter's life depends on the outcome of the trial. Vanderheide's portrayal balances Lila's confusion and strength of character as she battles to learn what's going on and save her daughter's life. Vanderheide creates highly believable characters by allowing their personalities to develop as the plot unfolds. K.J.P. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2024]
