Jason Grasl performs Ned Blackhawk's National Book Award-winning history of the Native peoples of what is now known as the United States. From contact with early conquistadors of New Spain to the Indigenous activists of the mid-twentieth century, this sweeping work illuminates the histories of Indigenous peoples. Grasl's performance maintains the listener's attention through dozens of dates, facts, and historical figures, often making this detailed information seem like a page-turner. However, despite Grasl's captivating narration, inconsistent editing creates noticeable dips in the sound quality, distracting listeners from the content of the audiobook. Nonetheless, this is a must-listen for any history lover. K.D.W. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2024]
