Matt Haynes provides two distinct voices for the main characters in this eclectic audiobook. Set in 1934, the story combines mystery, Egyptology, paranormal occurrences (fake and real), as well as romance and queer representation. Dashiel Quicke is a false medium who travels the country debunking other mystics' tricks. Hermann Goschalk is a college professor/Egyptologist who seems to have an actual ghost haunting his relics. With these two distinct characters, Haynes's voices allow the listener to move smoothly through the twists and turns of the mystery and enjoy the slow-moving romance between the two men. As the danger heats up, Haynes keeps the pacing and the tone of the characters building the suspense. C.F. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2024]
