Tavia Gilbert portrays the alternating points of view of sisters Eddie and Barrett Grant, whose stories revolve around the dreams and heartbreaks of a Nantucket family. At Barrett's request, Eddie takes a leave from her glamorous New York life as personal assistant to renowned romance novelist Dinah Lavender to help Barrett open her new gift shop and take care of their father. But returning home means facing all the problems she left behind: her mother's abandonment of the family, the sudden death of her brother, and the man she loves but refuses to marry. Gilbert's deft delivery of the Grant sisters' perspectives elevates the poorly written text to something listenable. She imparts energy no matter how often she has to repeat the same words and brings life to the otherwise two-dimensional characters. S.S. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2024]
