Anyone with a passing interest in the events taking place in the Middle East likely knows that the history of the region is--to put it mildly--complicated. Friedman is an award-winning journalist who has covered the region for decades. In this 1989 book with an updated introduction, he details the tortured events there from 1979 to the late '80s. With a fine delivery, Friedman narrates the new introduction, which includes his views on the Hamas terror attack of October 7, 2023, and Israel's response. After that, Robert Petkoff takes over with a superb narration of Friedman's now classic work. Petkoff's pronunciations of names and places are spot-on.
