WHEN I THINK OF YOU

Narrator DeWanda Wise shares Kaliya Wilson's rise from frustrated desk worker to production assistant for director Danny Prescott's historical film on school desegregation. Wise's mellifluous narration style and Ariel's first-person point of view bring listeners into Kaliya's story, especially her past romance with Danny and her doubts about their current interactions. Her pacing in conversations is excellent, and her short silences allow listeners to absorb and empathize. She weaves in small moments of humor, female empowerment, and celebration set against the employment challenges of a Black female filmmaker. Danny's voice is lower and more level than Kaliya's, and listeners can hear their chemistry in Wise's voicings. Her voice for Danny's ex is less distinguishable.
