Each victim was a writer who attended a writer's retreat in the quiet English town of Battle. Wadia creates wonderfully believable characters, including feisty Natalka, with her strong Ukrainian accent; wordsmith Edwin, who at 84 uses his age to his advantage when it comes to investigation; and quiet, unassuming Benedict, whose former life as a monk has left him with insecurities.
