Ellen's longtime friend, Judith, approaches Kate with evidence that an unsolved murder in rural Cinderwich, Tennessee, might be their Ellen. Reticent townsfolk and strange encounters with the supernatural leave them poorly equipped for the horrors of this small town. Odom's steady pace enhances the atmospheric tone of the narrative. Her emotional connection with Kate and Judith, along with her warm and appealing voice, keep listeners hooked to the legend surrounding the body found in the blackgum tree so many years ago.
