FREEDOM IS A FEAST

by | Read by Luis Selgas, Blas Kisic, Graciela Valderama, Ana Osorio

Fiction • 13.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2024

This family saga set in Venezuela follows political movements in the 1960s and the 1990s, and their effects on the lives of Stanislavo; Emiliana; Maria; and her son, Eloy. Four narrators take turns delivering the story of Stanislavo, which takes place in the jungles of northeastern Venezuela in 1964 as he participates in a leftist uprising and forms a relationship with Emiliana. Maria, for her part, is living in Caracas in 1998 with her son, Eloy, when he is shot during the protests in the Chavez era. There the paths of Stanislavo and Maria cross. The production features younger and older narrators, some with accents and some without. Greater consistency in the narration might have been beneficial in situating the story.
