Robb Moreira’s appealing and empathetic performance anchors listeners in Tucson teenager Brett’s point of view. Brett is creative and funny and has a great vocabulary, thanks to his adoptive mother, Evelyn—and his life is spinning out of his control. Brett tries to escape his grief by making and distributing new issues of his Kid Condor comic book, watching THE KARATE KID, lying on his trampoline and looking up at the constellations, and, increasingly, drinking alcohol and binge eating. Moreira doesn’t flinch from the most painful parts of Brett’s story, and his delivery of Brett’s darkest moments is balanced by warm characterizations of the people who care about him and want to help him—including his best friend, Reed; his teachers; and his new friend, Mallory.
