Thomas Fuller is clearly inspired by the efforts of a deaf football team from a small public school for the deaf in Southern California as the team chases the state championship in 2021 and 2022. Fuller's performance is authentic and enthusiastic, and his respect for these young men is unmistakable. One player lives in his car in a Target parking lot. Another breaks his leg just before the playoffs but finds a way onto the field anyway. Sometimes being deaf on the field is even an advantage--no trash talk distractions, and they're never offside because they don't move until the ball does. Fuller keeps up the momentum, especially through the 2022 playoffs as he recounts the dramatic moments of each game to its thrilling, and almost inevitable, conclusion.
