Cory Richards is well known for his photographs published in NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, including photos on Everest and a famous self-portrait immediately after surviving an avalanche. Narrating his brutally honest memoir, he lays bare his mental health struggles with bipolar disorder, addiction, and a drive to sabotage all of his relationships. Richards's voice is smooth and authentic but with an underlying gritty tone that is without an ounce of self-pity. It's not a pretty story, and he's not terribly likable. He cheats on his wife, leaves friends and work projects in a lurch, and gets into fistfights with his brother.
