Tom Lennon smoothly re-creates the Wild West of the Gold Rush days--its heroes and villains and their exploits. Listeners meet U.S. marshal, prospector, and bounty hunter Oliver Blackstone, who, before leaving for Boston, befriends 7-year-old Mia after her parents are murdered by a miner. Lennon's delivery as both gunslinger and doting protector are spot-on. Well-rendered historical events, authentic regional/period vocabulary, and cameo appearances by famous figures make for an enlightening and entertaining story. Lennon's vivid presentations of the Nevada setting and the train journey East are additional highlights.
