GATHER ME A Memoir in Praise of the Books That Saved Me

Glory Edim, founder of the Well-Read Black Girl book club, performs her eloquent new memoir with charm and enthusiasm. The memoir is structured around the books that have been significant in her life, particularly those written by Black authors: Nikki Giovanni, Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Audre Lorde, and more. Growing up in Arlington, Virginia, the child of Nigerian immigrants, Edim had a homelife that was both challenging and loving. She experienced the support of friends and teachers--and casual racism from the same folks. Books were her refuge and inspiration. Edim has excellent storytelling skills, mixing the funny, sad, and thought-provoking to great effect. Her listenable voice and zestful delivery add to the production's many pleasures.
