Narrators Shahjehan Khan and Jennifer Blom excel as the stakes rise in this suspenseful thriller. When the body of his girlfriend, Ashley, is found at the bottom of a ravine near the home of her ex-lover, Bella, small-town reporter Roman Grady's investigation into her death sparks a flame that threatens everyone. When did Ashley reconnect with unstable Bella? What is everyone hiding? Both narrators offer a range of voices, creating a variety of characters. Khan is especially adept at handling the novel's high emotions. He wisely underplays the drama so listeners can experience it for themselves. Blom's secondary characters are portraits in honesty. Additionally, she is never cloying as Roman and Ashley's 4-year-old son. Clever storytelling and excellent performances will keep listeners riveted.
