You'd expect this book to focus on its principal character's courtroom skills. Though the first chapter starts out that way, the plot rapidly takes on a broader scope, dealing with an international conspiracy, the U.S. presidency--and topically--America's lust for oil. Only at the climax, do you realize how David Sloane's expertise in handling juries bears on these important matters. Robertson Dean's authoritative reading is bold and convincing, giving credence not only to Sloane, but to a handful of leading characters, including a cop, a reclusive ex-CIA agent, the president, and his chief of staff.
