GOD'S LITTLE ACRE

by | Read by Buck Schirner

Classics • 6 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1933

Caldwell's fondness for bawdy humor has sometimes been compared to the writings of Rabelais. In this Depression-era novel the comic earthiness involves a family coping with the frustrations of it's poverty and sexual urges. Buck Schirner's animated reading and comedic approach risks making a caricature of a plot that is already somewhat cartoony. Schirner's choice to play up the hapless exploits of the characters is a valid technique for performing Caldwell, whose works are clearly an acquired taste.
