Narrator Allison Grischow sinks into the misery of best-friend drama with gusto. Murphy and Kat plan to reunite on Thanksgiving Eve in their hometown of Geneva, Illinois. But when Kat shows up with her boyfriend in tow, Murphy's plans crumble. In a casual tone, Grischow makes Murphy realistic and endearing. Murphy's growing depression has her agreeing to be her high school classmate, Ellie's, fake girlfriend for Thanksgiving dinner. Murphy's character has a midrange voice, Ellie's a lighter one, and Ellie's family members are distinctive. While Kat's voice doesn't sound exactly as author Grischow describes her, narrator Grischow delivers the story's mix of comedy and despair. As Murphy examines her life choices, both Grischows faithfully chronicle her amusing holiday journey. C.A. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine [Published: NOVEMBER 2024]
