Now they are bent on destroying the mortals who kept evolving while they were sleeping. Narrator Kate Rudd nails the main character, Robinson, who has developed a new way of training sorcerers. Rudd does well with male characters, especially Robinson, a gentle and intellectual type. Rudd bestows the other male main character, a military officer, with a more overt masculine confidence. It doesn't take long to figure out that Rudd and his new student, McKenna, are headed for romance.
