The author of this audiobook intertwines necessary flashbacks that reveal aspects of the characters' lives, and narrator Jason Culp keeps pace beautifully. A former US president who has been accused of murder asks a childhood pal to represent him. Reluctantly, Rob Jacobson accepts and proceeds to go to trial. Culp does a great job distinguishing voices that reflect the characters' personalities: The president has a demanding, almost angry, tone, while a family member, a former boxer, takes on a gruff persona. Jacobson's troubled son sounds worried. Overall, the consistent narration represents the characters well. Culp makes an interesting story even better as he leads listeners to the twisty ending.
