Maggi-Meg Reed shines in this psychological thriller pitting an octogenarian against an 8-year-old boy. Listeners are in for dark humor, plot twists, and increasing suspense. Set during Covid at the Royal Karnak Hotel on the banks of the Nile, the story features 81-year-old Maggie Burkhardt, a meddler who gets involved in fixing people's lives--even when she shouldn't. After her last "project" forced her to flee Switzerland, she settles in Egypt, where she is introduced to Otto. Insanity ensues. Reed does a remarkable job of transitioning between Maggie's role as narrator and her interactions with others. She also creates distinctions between a wide range of supporting characters.
