THE DROWNED

by | Read by John Lee

Mystery & Suspense • 8.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2024

Golden Voice Narrator John Lee takes on this mystery set in 1950s rural Ireland. Loner Wymes happens upon an abandoned car with its motor running and doors wide open in the Ruddocks' field. He's approached by a frantic Armitage, who's searching for his missing wife. Enter DI Strafford, who takes over the twisty investigation, which revolves around secrets. Lee utilizes a variety of Irish brogues for a small cast of characters and some posher accents for the nonlocals. The narrative, filled with long literary descriptions and digressions between discussions of the crime and the investigation, is delivered with a subtle Irish lilt. Throughout, Lee's bass voice booms and blusters at the beginnings of phrases, often petering out to inaudibility. M.B.K. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2025]
