Joe Pitts narrates a queer teen horror novel with some supernatural and romantic elements. Sixteen-year-old double amputee Charlie Frith doesn't have any friends except for ghosts only he can see. But when those ghosts begin disappearing, he's forced to work with the mysterious new boy, Sam, to save them. Pitts captures Charlie's grumpy wariness at his awkward situation--he's an outcast at school who is reluctant to trust the advances of the cool new kid. While Sam has his own secrets, Pitts portrays him as basically well adjusted. Listeners who are sensitive to depictions of violent death and torture should take care, but, overall, Pitts does a good job with these genuinely scary and gruesome scenes, maintaining balance in the story.
