Golden Voice Robin Miles returns to narrate the second audiobook in the duology. The story is set in Sequoia National Park in the spring of 2043. A brother, Romelo, and sister, Syrah, take very different approaches to saving the trees from escalating climate disasters. Much of the story takes place in Rhitza, the subterranean world beneath the trees. Miles portrays Syrah's struggle to become Keeper of Rhitza, a position committed to restoring the balance between humans and trees. In contrast, Miles depicts the rage of Romelo, who has determined that humans must go. Miles adopts a relaxed pace as she introduces a variety of humans and creatures of nature, but she expresses intense emotions as the plot reaches a crisis.
