The last of Adler-Olsen's Department Q thrillers is long and complex, but narrator Steven Pacey does a splendid job of keeping up the pace--and the accents. Most are Danish, delivered with clipped Anglo diction, but he's equally comfortable with other accents. Carl Mørck, of Copenhagen PD's Cold Case Unit, has been framed in an old drug case and is in prison awaiting trial. Suddenly, his lawyer is killed, and there are several attempts on his life, as well. Outside the prison walls, the hunt for who's behind the frame-up, and why, continues. Though some turn their backs on him, Carl's own team ignores orders from their superiors in an effort to clear him. New listeners may be confused by references to earlier cases and characters.
