This audiobook tells the story of 30-something Téo, who becomes the guardian of a toddler named Joel after the suicide of the boy's mother. Téo is joined in this new endeavor by three others: Ben, his best mate; Sybil, a progressive female rabbi; and Vic, his elderly disabled father. Jot Davies narrates this family story. While some voices, like that of Joel, prove a bit challenging, Davies skillfully portrays most of the north London characters. His rendering of Ben is especially laudable. Listeners hear Ben's charm, confidence, and even his barely concealed condescension. This is a slow listening experience as millennials work out friendship issues and explore the meaning of fatherhood. D.L.G. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: FEBRUARY 2025]
