Sarah Perry performs her collection of micro essays, which revolve around her love of candy. Each essay highlights a different confectionery sweet, which she uses to contemplate her relationships, ideas around humanity's pursuit of pleasure, or memory's connection to taste and smell. Perry perfectly describes the experience of eating each candy--every delightful texture and delicious flavor--in such a detailed way that listeners will feel as if they are right there with her. While Perry's narration conveys the depth of emotion in each essay, her slow pace and vocal fry often distract from her insightful recollections and excellent food writing. Still, Perry's performance sparkles with her love for her subject, which, for listeners, goes a long way at conveying her passion for and deep connection with her favorite food.
