CIRCUMSTANCES AFFECTING THE HEAT OF THE SUN'S RAYS...

by | Read by Geoffrey Arend, Tara Lynne Barr, Scott Brick, Jake Green, Monica McSwain, Emily Swallow

Poetry & Drama • 1.25 hrs. • Audio Program • © 2024

In 1856, amateur scientist and early suffragette Eunice Newton Foote published a paper suggesting for the first time that heated gasses such as carbon dioxide could change the earth's temperature. In doing so, Foote created the foundation for climate science. Television actor Emily Swallow leads a fine ensemble cast as Foote attempts to balance her innate curiosity with the demands of nineteenth-century domestic life. She bristles at being ignored by the male-dominated scientific world but still finds time to impart wit and wisdom and some tough love to her young daughters, voiced with scene-stealing intelligence by Tara Lynne Barr and bright compassion by Monica McSwain. Foote's work has only recently been rediscovered and celebrated. Another fine science-based "Relativity Series" production by L.A. Theatre Works.
