Resentment drips off of narrator Helen Laser's tongue in this enemies- to-lovers slow-burn romance set at an Elytheum Courts fan-fiction conference. Jennifer Worth uses the conference to escape a bad breakup only to discover that her co-worker/archnemesis Scott Daniels is an attendee. Laser plays up Jennifer's hurt feelings over Scott's denigration of her favorite genres and workplace ideas as she tries to best him in conference competitions. Jennifer's internal pep talks sound genuine in Laser's confident, well-phrased narration. Distinct voices for actors who play book characters and for conference attendees flesh out the immersive experience. As Jennifer and Scott decide to pursue a romance, Laser turns up the steam and shows both their vulnerabilities. Laser gracefully steers Scott and Jennifer into a happy resolution.
