Jackson moves listeners with his raw characterization of Isaac's painful reflections on growing up with an abusive, homophobic father; internalized shame over his sexuality; and buried horror at the impact of the Rodney King beating, the AIDS epidemic, and more. Jackson's lively pace and emotive deep voice capture the vulnerability in Isaac's struggles with forgiveness and self-acceptance. A heavy but ultimately hopeful memoir-like listening experience.
