Daniel Penz skillfully introduces this combination of science fiction and mystery set in Cincinnati, which exposes technology's dark side. Listeners meet Detective Jack Stewart, who is confronting inexplicable murders that are connected to a business staffed by seemingly ancient people. Stewart discovers that possibly sentient extraterrestrials are cloning modern people to replace Antarctic nonhumans--who were alive long before humans--to keep their community flourishing. Sound effects, including otherworldly voices coming from an AM radio, add atmosphere. Penz's Stewart painfully describes an attack and his worries that his delightful boss, Chief Borland, could be an enemy clone.
