Many of Mary Oliver's poems are about God or nature, and sometimes it's difficult to find the line between them. Her world was full of many delights and, had she lived to hear them, Kimberly Farr's interpretations of her poems would have been among them. There is some melancholy in this collection--although not much--and Farr's marvelous vocal talents bring that out as much as the great joy Oliver derived from being in the woods or at the seashore or anywhere there was wildness. Sometimes Farr's voice caresses the words, sometimes excitedly declaims them; nonetheless, her delivery is always true to their deeper emotions. Oliver chose these poems as her best, and here we can hear them as their best selves. D.M.H. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: FEBRUARY 2025]
