Whew, there's a lot going on in this work, which tells tawdry tales of the city of Houston, reported and written by a host of locally famous authors and performed by a talented ensemble of narrators. Some stories are longer than others, but all seem to be as long as they need to be. The many different performers do an excellent job, though the collection would be better served if each story's author and narrator were announced. All in all, the narrators do topnotch work; each performance is powerful in its own way. The 14 stories about murder, homelessness, betrayal, and many other topics take place in a small section of the city. The common element is the sincerity of the authors and the performers. It's clearly a labor of love all around. M.S. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2025]
